Romance and Moving in Together

Romance and Moving in Together Is your relationship getting serious? Are you trying to decide whether to move in together or not? Before making this big move, you should ask yourselves several important questions. It can only help to stop and think about some things before making a decision.

Romance and Moving in Together Before you move in together, you should first ask yourselves what is motivating you to want to move in together? Is it for love, for lust, economical reasons or a combination of all these things? Only you know the answer to these questions but they are certainly something worth thinking about. There is no right or wrong reason to live together but it helps to know that you both are on the same page if you do. It can be very emotionally hurtful for a couple to have any misunderstandings in this regard. This sort of hurt can be avoided when couples openly discuss things, before the move even happens.

After you identify what your mutual motivators are, next you will want to know how each of you plans to arrange the financial obligations of living together. Will you be splitting all costs or just sharing some bills? Will both your names be on the lease or just one? Whose account will the rent and other bill payments come out of? Are you going to share an account or have your individual ones? Believe me, this sort of financial talk in advance of moving in together is well worth your time. Finances are a huge source of stress for a lot of people and discussing all this stuff up front really helps.

Another area of consideration if you move in together is where will all your mutual objects go? Will you have a yard sale and sell duplicate items or will one of you put some things into storage somewhere. Maybe you are lucky and don’t have a lot of objects to deal with. You may even be fortunate enough to have an opportunity to buy new objects together as a couple. If this happens, who will pay for what? These are just things to think about. If you move in together and than break up, who gets what based on who bought what? It really depends on how long you live together. The goal is to have the relationship work but if it doesn’t, how will the objects be handled?

Household chores and meal preparations are another interesting topic to discuss before moving in together. Assuming that both of you are working, who will do the chores or make the meals? Will it be the woman or the man who does most of the chores and meal preparations or will both of you share these tasks? This can be a real sore point in a relationship if the couple does not agree on things in these areas. It is not that there is any right way or wrong way it is just important to discuss this stuff and to know where each of you stand in these ways.

So, to move in together or not you ask? Well, it depends on the couple. If you have traditional moral values, you may think that it is wrong to live together before marriage. On the other hand, the couple may think that it is necessary to live together before marriage to see if it will even work. Having children is another topic that deserves a lot of consideration and discussion. There are a lot of different points of view regarding living together and the couple just needs to decide what is best for them.
